Waterproofing of slab on ground in basements can be very tricky as not all of them are flat. Some, like the one in the picture below taken from one of the many massive projects in Dubai, can be very challenging because,
- The piles and the anchor bars are encroaching into the bottom of the slab.
- Hydrostatic pressure is high.
- The soil (Weak sand and rock) is Chloride saturated.
- The Substrate is too deep.
- There is high pressure in the soil from the neighbouring buildings.
- A 2-3m raft slab will be poured throughout.
How would you design the waterproofing for this basement to achieve a minimum of 25-year warranty (The norm is the UAE)?
What optimisation would you consider to to achieve optimum results?
